Robert Ellsberg on Why Saints & Why Dorothy

It is always “good talk” — the name of this column — when one has the pleasure, as I did here, of sitting down with Robert Ellsberg. Hardly a need to introduce this prominent American religious author, publisher, and editor. He is the definitive editor of Dorothy Day, with volumes of her writings to his credit, including her diaries (The Duty of Delight ) and selected letters ( All the Way to Heaven ). Often described as a “saint watcher,” his many award-winning books include All Saints: Daily Reflections on Saints, Prophets, and Witnesses for Our Time. Currently he serves as Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Orbis Books, the publishing arm of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, and as a Board member of the Dorothy Day Guild.

How happy we are to have Sal Rosselli, longtime union leader, "break bread" in this column inviting personal reflections on Dorothy Day’s impact. Sal is the former president of SEIU California and is the founder/president emeritus of the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW).
