Dorothy Day Pilgrimage Tours

The Dorothy Day Guild is conducting free walking tours “in the footsteps of Dorothy Day”. The 2 1/2 hour tour begins at Union Square, the distribution site of the first Catholic Worker newspaper in 1933, and the birthplace of the Catholic Worker movement. During our tour we will walk in Dorothy’s footsteps to see where she and other Catholic Workers fed the hungry, sheltered the homeless, spoke out for the needs of the poor and advocated for peace and non-violence.  We will visit the sites where Dorothy lived, prayed, demonstrated and was jailed. Most importantly, you will learn about Dorothy’s radical devotion to Christ’s teaching about love of neighbor and to the corporal works of mercy. We will also discuss the current state of her Cause for Canonization. The tour concludes at Maryhouse in the Lower East Side, where Dorothy called home for many years.

The walking tours are educational, interactive, and prayerful. All tours are free of charge.

This is a 2 mile tour on some uneven surfaces that will be conducted at a moderate pace. Wear comfortable shoes.
